I am learning CS50. So there are problem sets to solve for this course which is tough and to solve those problem sets, we need to understand the basics of the subject matter. 
This helps you not only to learn new things but also improve at work. It helps you think better and analyze stuff faster which helps in giving faster response to your boss or team mates after reasonable thought without missing anything.
